About Ché
About Ché
I’m a writer, a painter, a musician. And for more than thirty years, a psychotherapist and spiritual director, sitting one-on-one with women as they figure out who they are and who they’re becoming.
Those aren’t separate lives. They never were.
The painting
I’m self-taught and have been painting since 2008. Bold color, texture, and most often, the feminine figure. My work has been called “provocative and personal,” focused on emotion, relationship and movement. It has graced the cover of The Laurel of Asheville and been exhibited in New York, Atlanta and Asheville, along with juried exhibitions throughout the Southeast. I was also commissioned by Disney to commemorate the documentary “Women, War, and Peace.”
The writing
I ghostwrote my first published non-fiction book at twenty-five. Since then I’ve written many essays, most notably “Other Child, Other Mother,” published in the anthology Gravity Pulls You In (Woodbine, 2010), which received the Mom’s Choice Award and was a Finalist in the 2010 International Book Awards. My short story “Falling Leaves,” published by Empty Sink Publishing, was nominated for the 2017 Pushcart Prize. It’s an excerpt from my debut novel, Of a Kindred. These days, I write The Yes Path on Substack.
The work with women
The women I’ve worked with know how I do it: fast and furious, with great portions of love, support, humor and acceptance. I don’t hand anyone a curriculum. I listen for what’s actually happening in your life and we build from there.
I now live in Sedona, Arizona, a land of beauty, mystery and magic, where I host small, intimate retreats for women ready to remember who they truly came here to be.
(You may know my earlier work under the name Cheri Brackett.)
